Powered by outstanding play by its singles players,
Hamilton Central's varsity tennis team improved to 8-0
with victories over Morrisville-Eaton, 3-2, and Herkimer,
5-0 this week.
At home on Monday, Hamilton swept the singles to
defeat M-E. Gennady Julien (6-1, 6-0), Josh Valencia (6-1,
6-3) and Ryan Burdick (6-0, 6-2) each won to help the
Knights improve to 4-0 in Center State Conference's
Division II.
On Wednesday at Herkimer, Hamilton received wins by
Julien (6-1, 6-2), Valencia (6-4, 6-2) and Burdick (6-1, 6-0)
in singles, and doubles triumphs from the teams of
Richard Ammerman-John Valencia (6-2, 6-2) and Ben
Werner- David Schutt (1-6, 6-3, 6-1).
Julien, a junior, has not lost a set this year and is 9-0 at
first singles, while Josh Valencia, a sophomore, is 7-2 at
second singles and Burdick, a junior, is 8-0 at third singles
with only one lost set.
The Emerald Knights compete in the Center State
Conference tournament Friday and Saturday at the
Parkway Courts in Utica, and then host Mount Markham
on Monday.
