Lady Emerald Knights Now 11-2 With
Third Big Win in a Row
Hamilton softball Coach Bill Dowsland must be trying to figure out how to put
some of the runs his team has been scoring lately in a savings account for
withdrawal later in the season, maybe in the post-season.

In their last three games, the Lady Emerald Knights have scored a total of 67
runs, while racking up two shutouts and allowing just four runs.

On Tuesday, Hamilton defeated New York Mills 20-0 in a game shortened to
five inning by the mercy rule. The win moves their season record to 11-2 and
4-2 in league play.

All 11 of those wins have come on the arm of pitcher Samantha Martin, a
petite sophomore with a monster arm. In fact, she is the only Lady Emerald
Knight to throw a pitch this season.

On Tuesday she struck out six, allowed only two hits and gave up no walks.
Dowsland said Martin face just 18 batters, three over the minimum in five
innings.

"Sam just seems to get stronger as the season goes on," said Dowsland. "She's a
gamer."

She's also a gamer at the plate. On Tuesday Martin was two for four, scored
twice and rapped out an RBI triple.

Designated hitter Liz Unger scored three times, and had a two-run home run
for Hamilton.

Jenna Whyatt score three times, was one for two and had a pair of RBI.

Mallory Carhart blasted a triple Tuesday.

Many of Hamilton's runs came on the 18 walks New York Mills gave up. But,
Dowsland said that when his players hit the ball, they hit it hard.

"When we make contact, we're really hitting the ball," he said. "We've worked
a lot on hitting through the ball."

Hamilton needs to be hitting the ball Wednesday when the travel to
Westmoreland to face one of the team's that handed Hamilton a loss this year.

Then, on Thursday Hamilton is at Morrisville-Eaton and on Friday, they have
their lone day of rest this week. On Saturday, the play twice in the Hamilton
Sports Boosters Tournament.
