Mrs. V. Ends 34 Years at Colgate

Gloria Vanderneut (shown with her husband Gary) retires from Colgate this week after 34 years. For the past 30 years, she has been a admission office assistant, greeting prospective students and parents and visitors. Vanderneut is one of 28 employees who accepted a recent early-retirement offer from Colgate. Read the entire story.

With heavily-armed police, a K-9 unit and armored vehicle standing by, a man with a gun was taken into custory on Colgate's Oak drive Tuesday afternoon.

Numerous heavily-armed State Police officers and the Madison County K-9 unit are among dozens of law enforcement officers on the scene of what appears to be a standoff on the Colgate campus. Rte. 12B at Kendrick Street is blocked off. A Colgate official on the scene would only say it was "an emergency.". The incident began about 12:30 p.m.

Former President Bill Clinton will visit Colgate in October for the next Global Leaders lecture. Clinton is scheduled to give a public talk at 7 p.m. Friday, October 29, in Sanford Field House. More details about the lecture, including ticket information, will be released at a later date.

Watson House, the official presidential residence at Colgate, is being renovated despite the fact the university recently purchased probably the most historic home in the village as a home for its new president. Now Colgate finds itself with a spare presidential residence ... or at least in possession of one of the nicest residences in the downtown.
