Colgate Loses to Union 6-2

The Colgate men's hockey team lost 6-2 to sixth-ranked Union in the ECAC Hockey Tournament tonight at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Colgate will play in the third-place game against either Cornell or Harvard, who played in the other semifinal at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Hockey Playoff Tix on Sale

The Colgate men's hockey team has clinched a first-round bye in the upcoming ECAC Hockey playoffs and will be home for a best-of-three series from March 9-11. Colgate's opponent will not be known until the conclusion of the first round series. Tickets are $12 for reserved seating and $10 for general admission.

Colgate women's hockey senior Kimberly Sass was named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week for her performance last weekend. Sass had 17 saves in the Raiders' 3-0 shutout win over Union Friday night before making 19 stops in a 3-2 win over RPI Saturday.

Colgate is seventh in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine National Poll and ninth in the USCHO.com national poll. Colgate is 12-4-2 overall and are unbeaten in their last seven games.

Colgate men's hockey player Austin Smith won his second-straight Fischer-Hockey ECAC Hockey Player of the Month award after scoring 10 points in four games in December. He also leads the nation in points with 31 in 18 games this season and is tops in the country in goals scored with 19.

After skating to a 1-1 tie with fifth-ranked Merrimack, the Colgate men's hockey team jumped into the top-10 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine National Poll. The Raiders are ranked 10th in the nation in the poll and are the highest ranked team in ECAC Hockey after Union slipped to No. 12. In the USCHO.com National Poll, the Raiders stayed put at No. 12 and have been ranked for nine-straight weeks in that poll.

It is the first time the Raiders have been ranked since sitting at No. 20 in 2009-10.

Andy McDonald Returns to NHL Ice

Colgate grad and St. Louis Blues forward Andy McDonald is back in action after missing 51 NHL games this season with a concussion. The 34-year-old McDonald, who has two assists in three games, was injured Oct. 13 in Dallas. He is a local fan favorite and brought the Stanley Cup to Hamilton when he played for the Anaheim Ducks.
