Softball: HCS Beats Oriskany; Now 5-1 in League

Tue, May 04, 2010

All the pieces came together Monday for the Lady Emerald Knights.

HCS scored three runs in the top of the seventh to ensure a solid 6-2 league win at Oriskany Monday afternoon.

The Lady Emerald Knights are now 8-2 overall and 5-1 in league play.

As it has has all season, Hamilton got stellar pitching. Sam Martin allowed just two hits while stroking out nine and walked no one for another complete game win.

Coach Bill Dowslandsaid, "Sam pitched another great game, keeping the powerful Oriskany line-up off balance."

He was equally pleased with the way his team played in the field:

"We played outstanding defense tonight.  Our infield really played well.  Jenna Schell, Jordan Peterson, Katie Weeks and Rebecca Rogers were really solid while Katherine Keever had her best catching game since taking over for injured Sara Whyatt."

And, the Lady Knights were also outstanding at the plate:

  • Katie Weeks was 2 for 4 with a triple, scored twice and had 3 stoelen bases;
  • Rachel Holcomb was 3 for 4, scored twice and had 2 stolen bases;
  • Jenna Whyatt was  2 for 4, scored 1once and had 3 RBI's.
