Late Game Heroics Wins it for HCS

It ain't over 'til it's over ...

That seemed to be the Emerald Knights' motto going into the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday at home against Richfield Springs. A two-out rally pushed Hamilton to a 6-3 lead, which pitcher Don Philhower secured with two quick K's and a fly-out to end the game.

The win makes the Knights 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the league.

Lucas Rhyde started on the mound for Hamilton and gave up three runs in the first inning before knucking down on Richfield Springs. He went three and a third innings before yielding to Philhower.

The Knights scored one in the third and two in the fifth to tie the score.

In the sixth with two outs, and Sam Hale on third and Rhyde on first, Dan Meeks (in photo below) slapped a single, scoring Hale with what would be the winning run.

Jack Sullivan (in photo above) gave Philhower and the Knights some breathing room. The senior catcher crushed a double that would have cleared the deep centerfield fence on a day without a strong headwind, scoring Rhyde and Meeks.

Philhower was overpowering in the top of the seventh. He executed two quick strikeouts and trotted off the mound to celebrate his birthday as rightfielder John Andrzcjek hauled in a lazy fly.
