Herbst Talks About Colgate, Hamilton
Sat, Feb 27, 2010
Jeffrey Herbst, who will become the 16th president of Colgate in July, recently spoke with Post-Standard reporter Alaina Potrikus recently for a question and answer article. She asked Herbst about the relationship between the university and the village. He said:
"It sounds kind of trite, but one of the really interesting things about a university is that it will never move. There are very few things in life you can say that about, even major companies. In 100 years, Colgate University will still be in Hamilton. The university has a profound interest in Hamilton and the surrounding area to do as well as it possibly can. Our students and faculty live there, our children go to local schools. If Hamilton prospers, Colgate prospers. We’re intertwined."
(Photo: Herbst and his wife Sharon Polansky met His Holiness the Daili Lamma during his visit to Miami University last December.)
