The National Weather Service in Binghamton has once again issued both a heat advisory and an air quality warning for today, and we might have more of the same tomorrow when the Syracuse Symphony performs on the village green.

They say the heat index (a combination of the temperature and humidity) is expected to reach 95 to 100, which is especially worrisome for those who work or spend time outside. Temperatures are expected to reach 94 and the humidity is expected to be in the high 90 percent.

The air quality index is expected to surpass 100 for ozone content.

Be aware of symptoms of heat-related illnesses, including dehydration.

The state Department of Health recommends that people consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activities to reduce health risks. Those especially sensitive to elevated levels of pollutants include the very young and thos with respiratory ailments such asthma or heart disease.

AND, keep in mind if you are feeling the effects of the heat and humidity, so is your pet. be sure dogs and cats have access to ample amounts of cool water and shade or are kept indoors. Under no circumstances should pets be left unattended in a vehicle.
