HCS Track Girls Shine at State Qualifier

Fri, Jun 03, 2011

HCS is sending a runner to next weekend's state meet in Rochester, and it will be the second trip to the top for this young runner.

The five-member HCS girls track team competed in the state qualifying meet last Thursday, running all Division II schools in Section III.

Sage Hurta started the evening off with a Division 2 win in the 800 meters, earning a trip to the state meet in Rochester. This will be Hurta's second trip to a state championship meet this school year. She won the Class D cross country title last fall.

Clara Jones ran the 400 hurdles, placing second. She missed states by just one place. However, she lowered her own school record to 68.28 seconds.

Kinzea, Clara, Eme Jones and Stephanie Salmon ran the 4 x 100 relay in a season best of 54.22 seconds, but did not qualify for the state meet.

Clara, Eme, Salmon and Hurta finished the night with a second place in the 4 x 400 relay lowering their own school record to 4:13.96 seconds.
