UPDATE: Hamilton Video Leads, But Margin is Shrinking

Here's an election slogan you can really get behind: Vote for Valaya!

HCS students are participating in the "Invade Our Prom" contest on KSS-FM, the Central New York radio station, to have the band Love Sick Radio play at this spring's prom. They are one of eight Central New York schools participating in the contest, which required schools to submit short videos explaining why their school ought to have Love Sick Radio at their prom.

The videos are posted on the KSS website where community members can vote for HCS listed as "School # 6".

HCS junior Emily Truett, well known to folks as a soccer star and member of this year's Section III Class D champion girls basketball team, can now add "filmmaker" to her resume. She and other students crafted a 4:52 minute video explaining why HCS deserves to have the band at this year's prom.

The video is about a student who is no longer at HCS: Valaya Lalonde.

Truett, other students and members of the HCS faculty explain that Lalonde was an integral part of HCS and the community when she moved from here to Kentucky after her father's death from cancer in December. Each interviewee explains why Lalonde is so well loved by her peers, faculty and staff ... and members of the community.

Included in the video are Athletic Director Bill Dowsland and teacher Terry Monty. Students on film include Jack Sullivan, Phoebe Rotter, Dan Meeks, Mike Jones, Kate King and Katherine Keever.

Two extra special highlights:

+ Mexican exchange student Mara Duran speaking in Spanish -- with subtitles in English -- explaining how important prom is and how much more special it would be for her to have Love Sick radio play.

+ Teacher and coach Harry Jarcho talking about Lalonde and why it would be especially meaningful to have the band play at this year's prom. Jarcho said of Lalonde: 'Everything she touches she makes better."

Truett and her classmates hope members of the community will help make this year's prom even better by voting for their video.
