Updated: HCS Softball in Section III Finals Saturday

The HCS girls softball team has a shot at a Section III title when they face Stockbridge Valley Saturday in the finals at Cicero North Syracuse Gillette Road Softball Complex at 4:30 p.m. This is HCS' first trip to the sectional finals in four years.

HCS made it to the finals by hammering New York Mills 7-1 Wednesday in a game played at Vernon Verona Sherrill High School.

SVCS (17-2 overall and 12-0 in league play) made it an all Madison County finals by slipping past Poland 3-1 Wednesday.

NY Mills was the number two seed in its half of the tournament bracket. SVCS is the top seed in the other half. HCS was the number three seed.

Seventh grade pitcher Rebecca Rogers overpowered NY Mills, pitching the complete game. She struck out 15, while allowing two walks and two hits.

Hamilton's Hitters:

  • Katie Weeks, 2 for 3, scored 3 times
  • Rachel Holcomb, 2 for 3, scored 1 time, 1 RBI
  • Jordan Peterson, 1 for 3, scored 1 time
  • Sam Martin, 1 for 3, 1 RBI
  • Jenna Whyatt, 2 for 3 including a triple, scored 2times, 1 RBI
  • Rebecca Rogers, 2 for 4, 1 RBI

With the win, HCS is now 20-2 overall.

"We haven't faced Stockbridge in six years," said Coach Bill Dowsland. "Stockbridge is 17-2, ranked #3 in New York State, the two-time defending Sectional Champions and are led by their all-state senior pitcher Cheyenne Bumpus, who is bound for the University of Maine. They are very good and very experienced.  I believe they have 7 seniors."
