HCS Overpowers MECS in Softball

The HCS softball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning at Morrisville-Eaton Wednesday and never looked back. The Lady Emerald Knights slugged their way to a massive 16-2 win.

The win gives HCS a record of 4-1 and 3-0 in the league.

Once again, Hamilton bats were in overdrive. Senior Jenna Whyatt had a huge game Wednesday. She went 3-5 including a trip and what Coach Bill Dowsland called a "monster out of the park home run." she had five RBI and scored once. She was Joined by Rachel Holcomb who was a perfect 5-5, scored five times and had three stolen bases.

The rest of Hamilton's offense came from:
+ Katie Weeks, 3-5, scored 3 times, 3 RBI's; + Sam Martin, 1-5, scored once, 1 RBI; + Sara Whyatt, 1-3, scored once, double; + Jordan Peterson, 1-5, scored once;
+ Becca Rogers, 2-5, scored twice;
+ and Katherine Keever, 2-2, scored twice and had 2 RBI's.

Morrisville was undefeated at 2-0 coming into the game.

Martin was the winning pitcher for Hamilton. She struck out nine, walked none and scattered foiur hits. She is now 3-0.

Unfortunately, the other half of the Hamilton battery did not fair as well Wednesday. Dowsland said catcher Sara Whyatt dislocated her shoulder again in the fifth inning while fielding a bunt and throwing to first. She was replaced behind the plate by second baseman Katherine Keever.

Hamilton plays at home Friday against Waterville. Game time is 4:30 p.m. They are at Rome Catholic on Monday.
