HCS Budget Passes Easily; Johnson & Pils Elected

The HCS 2010-2011 budget passed 365-162 tonight. And, first-time candidate Molly Johnson (in photo) was overwhelmingly elected with 421 votes. Incumbent Bob Pils was returned to office with 283. Details to come.

HCS Budget Passes Easily; Johnson & Pils Elected

"Now the real work begins," said Molly Johnson tonight about 15 minutes after the polls closed for the HCS budget vote and board of education election.

The first time school board canidate was responding to the announccement by district Clerk Debra Kirley, who read the results of the board of education and school budget voting. Johnson received 421 votes to win the spot being vacated by Sandra Carter. Returned to the board was incumbent Bob Pils who received 283 votes. The third candidate, Antonio Berrara received 218 votes.

Also on Monday:

  • the 2010-2011 school budget was approved by district voters 365-162;
  • the purchase of a bus and a second vehicle was approved 330-115;
  • and the district's contribution to the Hamilton Public Library was approved 373-151.

The new budget totals $11,335,607. That amounts to a .52 percent increase over the current spending plan and includes a 3.18 percent increase in the tax levy.

Voters approved the purchase of a 66-passenger bus for a price not to exceed $95,000 and the purchase of a $25,000 fuel-efficient vehicle.

Also approved was the school district's contribution to the Hamilton Public Library of $90,710.
