HCS Baseball, Softball Notch Wins

The HCS baseball and softball teams are each a win richer after a joint trip east on Rte 20 to Richfield Springs Tuesday

The baseball team ripped Richfield Springs 7-1 behind a strong pitching performance by Kinnon Nolan-Finkel and an outstanding job at the plate by Lucas Rhyde.

The softball team beat and beat up on Richfield Springs 17-1 Tuesday. Seventh grade -- yes, seventh grade! -- pitcher Becca Rogers (pictured above at left) threw a two-hitter for her first varsity win. Hamilton also had six players with multiple hits Tuesday.

Nolan-Finkel (pictured at right, number 13), a junior left-hander, turned in five powerful innings, facing just 17 batters, two over the minimum. He gave up just two hits, carded six strikeouts and gave up no walks.

Catcher Jack Sullivan finished out the pitching duties giving up one unearned run and striking out four.

Rhyde had the big day offensively. He had two hits, two stolen bases, scored a run and had one RBI.

HCS is now 2-0 and play at Morrisville-Eaton Wednesday.

Rogers had about the same sort of day Nolan-Finkel did. She two-hit Richfield Springs and had 10 strikeouts. She only walked one. This was Rogers' first official outing; she started the game against Cincinnatus that was rained out after just two innings last week.

Katie Weeks had a career best game at the plate Tuesday. She went four for five at the plate, including a pair of home runs and a double. She scored four times and had four RBI.

The rest of the Lady Emerald Knights hitting included:

+ Kaitlyn Askew, 1-3, scored 2 times;

+ Sam Martin, 3-5, scored 2 times;

+ Sara Whyatt, 2-4, triple, 3 RBI's;

+ Jenna Whyatt, 2-5, double, 1 RBI;

+ Jordan Peterson, 3-5, scored 4 times, home-run, 1 RBI

+ and Jenna Schell, 2-5, scored 2 times, 3 RBI's
