Fire Department Donates $25,000 to Village

In a recent ceremony, members of Fountain Fire Company #1 presented the village a check for $25,000 to help offset the cost of a new rescue truck.

Fountain Fire Company (FFC)#1 is the fraternal body that provides the manpower to staff the department. In addition to the significant training commitment required to be a volunteer firefighter, members must also participate in company functions which includes participation in fundraising events.

FFC#1 has run a food tent at the Bouckville Antique Show for the past ten years.  In addition members organize an annual golf tournament at Seven Oaks, and each semester around finals week firefighters deliver care packages to Colgate students that are purchased by their parents.  Additionally many community members and local businesses generously support FFC#1 by sponsoring these events and making regular donations to the company, which is a non-profit.

In January the Hamilton Fire Department took delivery of a new Pierce Heavy Rescue truck.  While the $25,000 donation covers only about 5% of the total cost of the vehicle it still represents a significant cost savings to local tax payers.  FFC#1 has also spent nearly $80,000 over the past five years to update the equipment carried on the heavy rescue truck, such as the hydraulic rescue tools used to extricate victims from motor vehicle crashes.

According to Chief Ross Hoham this is significant since the department has been able to ensure that firefighters are equipped with the latest and most advanced rescue equipment available without increasing the tax burden on local residents.  FFC#1 President Trueworthy adds that in addition to staffing the fire department with manpower, the company's mission includes assisting the village financially to ensure that the fire department is properly trained and equipped to serve the community.
