Driver in DWI Accident Village Cop & Campus Safety Officer

Wed, May 05, 2010

The Post-Standard today reports that the Brookfield man charged with DWI following an accident on Hamilton Road last week is a part-time village police officer and a member of Colgate's Campus Safety staff.

Daniel Furner, 38, of 2782 Mill Hill Road, was driving a pickup truck shortly before 5 a.m. Friday when the truck left the road on a large curve and hit a road sign and a tree. State Police charged Furner with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a property-damage accident and other violations.

The State Police said Furner then left the scene, and was found nearby.

He was injured at the scene and transported to Community Memorial Hospital by SOMAC.

Hamilton Village Police and Colgate Campus Safety assisted the Troopers and Hamilton Fire Department.

The Post-Standard says Furner was placed on administrative leave from his Colgate job.
