Dowsland: Optimistic About HCS Softball

What was your record last year and how did you do in the post-season? (Include your overall coaching record at HCS.)
 16-6 overall (8-2 League Champions)
245-64 (1998-2009)
Lost in the D-1 semi-finals to Oriskany
Who graduated from last year's team (include position) and how they will be missed?
Coral Dowsland (1b), Katie Baker (2b), Calyn Fisher (3b). Their experience at the corners and leadership will be missed.
How does this year's team compare and what is your overall outlook for 2010? Include an assessment of other teams in the league.

I'm really excited about this year's team. We have tremendous speed in the outfield, experience at pitcher/catcher.

Our league is extremely tough from top to bottom with a bunch of Class C schools.

Who do you have returning from last year's team (including positions, etc.) and what do you expect of them this year? Any playing new positions?

Sam Martin (P/3B),Katie Weeks (SS), Sara Whyatt (C), Rachel Holcomb (LF), Jenna Whyatt (CF), Kaitlyn Askew (RF), Jenna Schell (1B), Alison Hanson (OF). New players will be Jordan Peterson (2B), Rebecca Rogers (P/3B) and Katherine Keever (Utility).

I expect the returning players to provide leadership to our newcomers and consistent play throughout the season.

Who will be new your starting lineup this season; positions and a little bit about each player?
Jenna Schell (1b)
Jordan Peterson (2b)
Katie Weeks (SS)
Rebecca Rogers/Sam Martin (3b)
Rachel Holcomb (LF)
Jenna Whyatt (CF)
Kaitlyn Askew (RF)
Sam Martin/Rebecca Rogers (P)
How will HCS be when in the field this season? Who are your best fielders and what makes them good?

We should be solid up the middle infield with Weeks & Peterson.

Outfield is fast and solid with Holcomb, Whyatt & Askew.

The battery of Martin, Rogers and Whyatt behind the plate should provide consistency.

What will opposing pitchers see when Hamilton comes to bat? Who are your top hitters and why are they so good?
We have a solid offense that can play both a short game (bunting and slapping) as well as a power game.
What are the team's strengths?
Speed in the outfield, pitching/catching, athleticism
Weaknesses?
 Inexperience at the corners
What are the three most important things you and the team will have to do this season to make into into the sectionals and content for a sectional title?
1. Become consistent hitters throughout our line-up.
2. Reduce defensive errors
3. Become more aggressive baserunners
