Colgate Graduates 691 on Sunday; ArtWalk Planned

Colgate University will hold its 189th commencement exercises Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in Sanford Field House. And, once again parents and other visitors to the village will have the opportunity to shop for local and regional art.

The ceremony is expected to last around two hours and draw about 5,000 attendees.

Martha Nussbaum, one of the world's leading philosophers and a University of Chicago professor, will talk about the value of a liberal arts education during her commencement address. During the ceremony, Colgate will award Nussbaum a Doctor of Letters honorary degree.

During Sunday's event, the university will award 691 bachelor of arts degrees and three master of arts in teaching degrees.

Local and regional artists will have their works on display in a variety of locations today and Saturday as the Hamilton Business Alliance and MAD Art stage another Art Walk. There is a gallery preview through 5 p.m. today; most locations stay open until 7 p.m.

Folks can revisit Art Walk locations Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
