Board to Discuss Budget, Court Elimination

Members of the village Board of Trustees will take up several major issues during a public hearing before the regular monthly meeting Tuesday night, and during the meeting itself.

A public hearing is set for 6:30 p.m. to dicuss the 2010-2011 village budget. The total budget is $7,521,760; the general fund is $2,471,800. The budget incudes a .01 percent increase in the tax levy.

During the regular meeting, the board will discuss the possibiity of abolishing the village court. State law does not require the village to have a court. Hoewever, the Town of Hamilton must have a court.

This was a topic of discussion Thursday at a town meeting attended by Village Clerk Ronda Winn.

Also on the agenda will be the possibility of a changing in the zoning law to allow the Colgate Inn to make renovations without having to add considerably more parking spaces. That issue was also discussed Thursday.

Tuesday's meeting will be held at the courthouse on Montgomery Street.

The public hearing begins at 6:30 p.m. and the regular meeting is expected to begin at 7 p.m..
