As it was once said, "It ain't over 'til it's over." The HCS softball team proved that Thursday with a monster come from behind win.

10-Run Sixth Gives HCS Impressive Softball Win

The Lady Emerald Knights' softball team racked up 10 runs in the sixth inning to come from behind and post a gutsy 11-4 hammering of Oriskany at home Thursday afternoon.

Coach Bill Dowsland was pleased with his team for their play in the field and at bat.

Hamilton trailed Oriskany 4-1 going into the bottom of the sixth Thursday, but turned things around in an explosive half inning. Dowsland said the team parlayed eight hits, four walkis, five wild pitches and an error into 10 runs and the lead.

Then, in the Oriskany half of the final inning, Rachel Holcomb and Kaitlyn Askew each made big plays on hits to the outfield, cutting off any hope of an Oriskany comeback.

Dowsland said he was also pleased with the play of Becca Rogers, a seventh grader who started at third.

As she has for almost every game for the past several seasons, Hamilton's Samantha Martin dominated on the mound. She had five stroikeouts, gave up one walk and yielded only four hits.

At the plate, Hamilton shared the wealth:

+ Jenna Whyatt was 2-4 with a double, an RBI and she socred one time;

+ Sara Whyatt was 2-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs;

+ Askew was 2-4 and 2 runs;

+ Holcomb was 1-3 with an RBI and one run;

+ Martin was 1-3 with 2 RBI and a run.

HCS is now 2-1 overall and faces Sherburne-Earlville at home Saturday at 11 a.m.
