There will be a series of films on Tibet
and Buddhism leading up to the Dalai
Lama’s visit on Tuesday, April 22.

from Thursday, April 24)
Thursday, February 21- Kundun. In a
remote area of Tibet a two-year old
child is identified as the Dalai Lama.
The story follows him into adulthood
where he tries to rule his nation at
one of the most challenging times in
history.
Thursday, February 28- Travellers and
Magicians, Food provided. The tale of
two men hitchhiking through the
Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan in search
of a better life. Dondup shares the
road with a Buddhist monk, an apple
seller, a papermaker and his daughter
Thursday, March 6- (Location TBA)
Dreaming Lhasa. The story of an
American filmmaker who is visiting
Dharamsala, India, the Dalai Lama's
exile headquarters, to make a
documentary about former political
prisoners from Tibet, one of whom
she becomes involved with.
Thursday, March 13- Little Buddha.
Three Children, including one from
Seattle, travel to Nepal where the
Buddhist monks are in search of the
reincarnation of their teacher.
Thursday, March 27- Saltmen of Tibet.
Stunning cinematography captures
images that contain great beauty in
simplicity, there is no narration except
at the start and end, and is the tale of
nomads covered in the Melvyn C.
Goldstein book, Nomads of Western
Tibet.
Thursday, April 3- The Cup. A comedy
set in 1996 about a group of boy
monks in a Tibetan monastery in exile
in India who are determined to watch
the World Cup soccer tournament.
Thursday, April 10- Dreams of Tibet.
Journalist and China watcher Orville
Schell explores the clash of values
between American opinion of China’s
human rights record and the
uncomprehending and intransigent
Chinese leadership.
Thursday, April 17-10 Questions for
the Dalai Lama. Ten Questions are
posed to His Holiness the Dalai Lama
by filmmaker and explorer Rick Ray.
Ray examines some of the fundamental
questions of our time by weaving
together observations from his own
journeys and the wisdom of the
Buddhist spiritual leader.
