Trustees Set Public Hearing for 4-Way Stop at Maple & Lebanon

The village Board of Trustees will hold a pubic hearing on the four-way stop proposed for Maple Avenue and Lebanon Street. The public hearing is at 7 p.m. The board's regular monthly meeting begins at 6 p.m.

HCS runner Sage Hurta competed at the Loucks Games in White Plains this weekend, along with teams from seven states and Canada. She lowered her school and CSC League records in the 800 to 2:16.17. She also ran a personal best in the 400 meter hurdles, lowering the school record to 66.62 seconds. HCS team competes at the CSC Championships on Thursday.

Both the HCS baseball and softball teams staged impressive comebacks to win this afternoon. The boys beat Sauquoit 7-3 and the girls won 6-5 at home. Check back for details.

The Colgate men's lacrosse team will play the University of Massachusetts in the first round of the NCAA tournament Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Colgate will be meeting the Minutemen for the first time in program history. This is also the Raiders' first at-large bid. UMass (15-0, 6-0 CAA) is the only undefeated team in the country this season.

Memorial Day Extended for HCS

The mild winter left HCS wit ha surplus of snow days, so officials decided to give students May 24 and 25 off. This extends the Memorial Day break to four days. Most CNY schools have done the same thing.

Vaughan, Baker Coaches of the Year

The Howard Hartman Coach of the Year Awards were recently awarded to men's hockey head coach Don Vaughan and volleyball head coach Ryan Baker. The award is given to a coach who has demonstrated the ability to motivate, to instill discipline, to help build character and perseverance, to display resourcefulness and to be adept at teaching the fundamentals of their sport. They will receive their award at the university convocation ceremony.

The Chenango Valley Scribes writing and illustrating contest awards ceremony will be held at the Colgate Bookstore Friday at 6:30 p.m. Children who the contest will receive their certificates and have an opportunity to read from their stories. Awards for Best Storytelling and Best Illustrations will be announced and one entry will receive the Palace Theater Prize. This event is cosponsored by the Colgate Bookstore and the Hamilton Public Library.

Treasures II Gets Encore @ Inn

If you missed the recent roll-out party for the new Treasures in the Heart of New York CD at the Barge, you have another chance Friday. Sean Nevison, who created the collection of local musicians playing in support of the Hamilton Food Cupboard, will be on hand at the Colgate Inn beginning at 7 p.m. He will be joined by two bands, bands Williams Road and Son Bully. Good Nature Brewery is on hand and donating proceeds from the sale of the first keg to the food cupboard.

Town to Adopt Windmill Moratorium

The Town of Madison Planning Board Wednesday night recommended to the Town Board that a 12-month moratorium be established for the proposed 36-turbine wind farm proposed to be built. The Town Board agreed and will set a public hearing for the creation of a local law. Check back for details.

The Madison Planning Board will meet Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. On the agenda is consider whether to recommend a moratorium on wind farm development. The board is supposed to also meet with the Town Council. The board normally meets in the town hall but most meetings have been moved due to large attendance

Undrafted, Eachus Signs with KC Chiefs

Several sources are reporting that Colgate running back Nate Eachus, while not being chosen in the recent NFL draft, has signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs, who were 7-9 last year, drafted only one running back, Texas A & M's Cyrus Gray in the sixth round.

Ron Bono, supervisor for the town of Madison, announced the town board and planning board will hold a workshop on the proposed moratorium on the Upland Hill windmill project following the planning board's regular meeting on May 2.The boards and the town's attorney will discuss the proposal, which was submitted by Madison Matters, a group of local citizens with concerns about the project.
