HCS Concerts at Bremer Theater Wednesday and Thursday
Hamilton Central is taking its music on the road next week. The annual instrumental
music concert will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and the vocal music concert will
be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Both are being staged at Colgate's Bremer Theater of
the Dana arts building because the HCS auditorium is under construction

Hamilton Airport Receives Federal Grants
Hamilton Municipal has received two grants from the federal Department of
Transportation totaling $217,000. Of that amount,  $112,500 will be used to create
master plan for the airport and the remaining $104,500 will fund creation of a
taxiway to  improve traffic flow and safety.

Colgate & Community to Honor Retiring Marty Erb
Marty Erb, a fixture in Hamilton and on the sidelines of a long list of Colgate athletic
events is retiring. A recognition of his 35 years as an athletic trainer will be
celebrated May 29. Colleagues and friends from the community are invited.

Playing their fourth game in five days -- with two to come on Saturday -- the HCS
softball team staged a strong come-from-behind effort to beat Morrisville-Eaton

Former HCS Battery Mates Meet on College Baseball Field
Matt Martin pitched and Kyle Mason caught. That was a successful pairing for HCS
baseball for several recent years. Both graduated last June and continued to play at
the college level. Earlier this week Mason's Hamilton College squad played Martin's
Red Dragons of Cortland State.

Residents Meet Three School Board Candidates
Cynthia Mannino, Gail Davis and Ingrid Hale, the three candidates for two positions
on the HCS Board of Education, were introduced to and answered questions from
members of the public Wednesday night. Residents go to the polls May 20.

HCS Hires New Secondary Principal from East Irondequoit
Thomas Lutsic, currently an assistant principal in the East Irondequoit School
District near Rochester, was hired Wednesday as the new secondary principal for
Hamilton Central Schools. He will replace Dana Chapman who is retiring at the end
of this academic year.

Singles Players Help Emerald Knights Tennis Team Remains Perfect
Gennady Julien, Josh Valencia and Ryan Burdick continue to win and so does the
Hamilton tennis team. Rob Poznar's squad is 8-0 heading into the Center State

Westmoreland jumped out to an early lead and despite their best efforts to fight
back, the Lady Emerald Knights softball team lost Wednesday 11-4. The girls play at

Funding Commitments Keep SOMAC Ambulances on the Road
It appears that the greater Hamilton area will not have its ambulance service
coverage interrupted. The Southern Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps has
received assurances from Colgate and local governments that they will increase
funding to keep the service from having to shut down.

In the last three games Hamilton's softball team has scored 67 runs. Twenty of those

Colgate Shooting Threat Case Adjourned Until June 2
The case of George So,  the Colgate junior who posted an Internet threat to shoot
people on campus, has been adjourned until after the academic year ends. So, who
posted what he said was a prank on the controversial website Juicy Campus, had his
case before Hamilton Village Court adjourned until June 2. The so called prank
caused the mobilization of some 50 members of federal, state and local law
enforcement agencies.

Hamilton Central Schools graduate and Hubbardsville resident Kyle Roberts was
recently recognized at Keuka College's end of year honors convocation.

Queens Residents Oppose New Power Plant
The New York Daily News reports that a very vocal protest was held in objection
to the building of a proposed new electrical generating facility in Astoria, Queens.
The plant would produce some 500 megawats of power and replace one set to go
offline in 2010. This comes at a time when New York Regional Interconnect, Inc. is
proposing its project to supply power to New York City.

HCS Tennis Team Keeps Its Record Spotless
Hamilton's tennis team is compiling one of the best records of any team in the
region this year. Rob Poznar's squad added its seventh win against no losses Monday.
The Emerlad Knights posted a 3-2 win against Morrisville-Eaton. Gennady  Julien,
Josh Valencia and Ryan Burdick each won at singles.
Emerald Knights Beat Notre Dame & Proctor in Lacrosse
Hamilton's varsity lacrosse team beat Utica's Proctor Monday 17-0. The win comes
on the heels of the Knights' 15-7 win over Notre Dame on Saturday at home.

Lady Emerald Knights Steamroll West Canada Valley
The long drive to play West Canada Valley Monday afternoon was worth it for the
HCS softball team. Bill Dowsland's team returned with a 28-4 win, pushing their
record to 10-2 overall and 4-2 in league play. They play at home tonight against New
York Mills and are at Westmoreland Wednesday.

Colgate's Cheng Takes Last Bow With Finger Lakes Orchestra
On Sunday, Marietta Cheng bid a farewell to musicians and patrons of the
Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes after conducting her final concert. She
served as conductor and musical director for the orchestra for 22 years. Cheng also
is a professor of music at Colgate conductor of the Colgate University Orchestra.
Computer Breach Prompts HCS to Cancel May Jam
As the school year winds down, HCS usually schedules a day of fun, games and picnic
called May Jam. It's meant to be one part reward and one part celebration for no
vandalism of school property. May Jam 2008 has been cancelled because numerous
students breached computer security.

Sphere, the Cazenovia developer seeking to building a retail center on 12B North at
Airport Road, has hit a snag with a major project near Turning Stone Resort &
Casino in Verona. The state is reluctant to let Sphere tap into a water line across

Construction Causes HCS to Relocate Events
Wednesday night's elementary school play was the last event to be held in the HCS

An investigation continues into how some
25 students used a classified password to

computer network. It appears the students
used the password to circumvent the

Unless the Southern Madison Ambulance
Volunteer Corps (SOMAC) gets an
immediate transfusion of cash, the greater

Colgate Student Who Posted Threat
in Jail; More on Juicy Campus
The 20-year-old Colgate student who
posted a comment on a college gossip
website threating to shoot people on the
Colgate campus Tuesday morning is behind
bars in Madison County Jail. In related news,
Hamilton Mayor Sue McVaugh praised
campus and police officials -- including the
FBI -- for taking what turned out to be a
hoax seriously. And, read the boast of the
website juicycampus.com that people who
post comments cannot be identified or
traced.

New York State Police remain on the
Colgate campus today after working with
village police and campus security overnight
to take into custody a student who posted a
threat to shoot students on a controversial
collegiate gossip Website.

School Board President Gowan Won't
Run Again; Hale Will
Carolyn Gowan, current president of the
Hamilton Central Schools Board of
Education, will not seek reelection in May.
Her term ends later this spring. However,
Board Member Ingrid Hale said she will be
running when district residents vote May 20.
Petitions are available in the administration
offices of HCS. Deadline to file is April 16
by 4:30 p.m.
PSC Gives NYRI Application an
'Incomplete' ... Again
The state Public Service Commission (PSC)
has told New York Regional Interconnect,
Inc. (NYRI) it wants more information. For
the second time, the state agency yesterday
said the application to build a 200-mile-long,
400,000-volt electric transmission line
through Upstate New York needed to
include more information.

Against DOE Decision on NIETC
New York Attorney General Andrew
Cuomo today announced he had filed suit
against the Federal Department of Energy
for its decision to created a national
interest electric transmission corridor
covering much of New York State. He said
"the DOE's action was taken without

harm residences, businesses and natural

night that she was approached by and met

Geoff Kraly Thrives in New York City
Music Scene; New CD Pending
About the time most kids his age were still

Geoff Kraly was on stage as a bass player. In

Lesley Stahl, a regular on CBS' 60 Minutes,
will be the keynote speaker at Colgate's
commencement May 18. Stahl has been on
60 Minutes -- with Colgate grad Andy
Rooney -- since 1991 and previously was the
network's White House correspondent.
